Supervised Parenting Time

FairPlay provides professional Supervised Parenting Time, Accompanied Parenting Time, Supervised Exchanges, Parent Education, and real-time Parenting Coaching in community settings and, when appropriate, in homes throughout Massachusetts.

Overview

A Safe, Structured, and Professionally Neutral Framework

FairPlay creates a predictable environment where children and parents can spend meaningful time together. Supervisors support the structure and safety of parenting time while allowing parents and children room to interact naturally.

Parenting Time Support

The visiting parent remains the parent and is encouraged to assume responsibility for ordinary care, needs, activities, meals, and age-appropriate interaction.

Real-Time Guidance

When appropriate, supervisors may provide guidance, prompting, redirection, and parenting education rather than simply observing from the sidelines.

Clear Role Boundaries

FairPlay does not investigate, diagnose, provide custody evaluations, make parenting-plan recommendations, or advocate for either parent.

One Consistent Standard

FairPlay does not divide families into different levels of supervision or create add-on services. Every family receives the same high-quality service framework, delivered through FairPlay’s established rules, guidelines, policies, and protocols.

Services

Our Services

Services begin after intake, case review, service planning, and payment arrangements are complete.

01

Supervised Parenting Time

FairPlay provides professionally supervised parenting time in community settings. The visiting parent remains the parent during parenting time and is encouraged to assume responsibility for the child’s ordinary care, needs, activities, meals, and age-appropriate interaction. The supervisor provides the structure necessary for parenting time to occur safely and appropriately.

Meaningful Time Together
02

Supervised Exchanges

FairPlay provides structured exchanges when parents need assistance transitioning children between households or parenting-time arrangements. Protocols may include staggered arrivals and departures, designated meeting locations, supervisor-assisted transitions, and other arrangements intended to reduce unnecessary parent-to-parent contact and adult conflict.

Supported Transitions
03

Real-Time Parenting Coaching & Parent Education

Parent education is incorporated naturally when appropriate. A supervisor may help a parent recognize and respond to a child’s needs in the moment, including communication, age-appropriate expectations, transitions, routines, engagement, boundaries, and responding constructively to a child’s cues. The purpose is educational and supportive, not therapeutic or evaluative.

Active Parenting Support
04

Accompanied Parenting Time

When parents agree that a professional support person should be present, FairPlay may provide accompanied parenting time using the same rules, guidelines, and child-focused structure. The service supports polite, low-conflict time together without turning ordinary family interaction into therapy or an evaluation.

Supportive Family Time
Estrangement & Reunification

Creating Space for Relationships to Be Rebuilt

Some families come to FairPlay after a parent and child have experienced an extended separation, estrangement, disrupted contact, or significant deterioration in their relationship.

These cases may require patience, consistency, appropriate boundaries, and an environment in which neither the child nor parent is pressured to immediately recreate a relationship that has changed over time.

FairPlay can provide a safe, professionally structured space for healthy reunification and reconnection to occur.

FairPlay does not provide reunification therapy and does not determine why estrangement occurred. Instead, we provide the practical framework within which a parent and child may begin spending time together while appropriate professional boundaries and safety protocols remain in place.

Heavy or therapeutic emotional conversations are redirected during parenting time so they can be addressed with the family’s therapist in the appropriate clinical setting. FairPlay can work in tandem with the therapist while preserving time for ordinary parent-child interaction.

Role of the FairPlay Supervisor

Professional Neutrality With Active Parenting Support

Julia Brice accepts the appointment through FairPlay Parenting Education, a professional supervised parenting time service established and overseen by Julia Brice.

FairPlay Parenting Education operates utilizing a team-based service model. Supervised parenting time services may therefore be facilitated by professionally trained FairPlay supervisors working under the direction and oversight of Julia Brice and in accordance with the FairPlay method, structure, rules, guidelines, policies, and protocols.

All FairPlay supervisors are trained in maintaining professional boundaries, neutrality, safety-centered supervision practices, and compliance with the Massachusetts Guidelines for Professional Parenting Time Supervisors, together with FairPlay’s additional operational protocols and procedures.

Supervisor assignments may be made based upon scheduling, geography, availability, case logistics, and the specific needs of the family. Regardless of which FairPlay supervisor is assigned, all services are provided pursuant to the same FairPlay structure, expectations, and professional standards.

FairPlay supervisors maintain professional neutrality. They are there to support the structure and safety of parenting time while allowing parents and children room to interact.

When appropriate and within the scope of service, a supervisor may provide real-time parenting guidance, prompting, redirection, and education. This does not convert supervised parenting time into therapy or an evaluation.

FairPlay Supervisors Are Not

Investigators, custody evaluators, therapists, Guardians ad Litem, mediators, arbitrators, parenting coordinators, parenting-plan decision makers, expert witnesses, advocates for either parent, or the “eyes and ears of the Court.”

A supervisor does not determine which parent is right or wrong, conduct an investigation, or make custody or parenting-plan recommendations based upon supervised parenting time. The role is deliberately limited so that professional neutrality can be maintained and the environment can remain focused on the child and parent-child relationship.

Documentation & Records

Observation, Not Opinion

FairPlay distinguishes between objective observation and professional opinion. Documentation describes relevant factual information rather than characterizing, diagnosing, interpreting, or evaluating parents and children.

Activity Logs

  • Record basic facts such as date, time, location, activities, and food
  • Are not evaluations, parenting assessments, investigative reports, or recommendations

Incident Reports

  • Are separate from Activity Logs
  • May be created when rules or safety protocols are crossed, parenting time is significantly disrupted or frustrated, or another circumstance requires separate documentation

Defined Scope

  • Supervisors are not retained to create a record for one side of a dispute
  • Documentation remains objective, factual, and within the defined service role

Q&A

Questions & answers

Common questions about supervised parenting time with FairPlay, drawn from our service guidelines.

About FairPlay

FairPlay provides neutral supervised parenting time, accompanied parenting time, supervised exchanges, and practical parent support throughout Massachusetts. Services begin after review of the governing order or agreement, intake materials, logistics, and service fit.

FairPlay supervisors are not investigators, custody evaluators, therapists, parenting-plan decision makers, expert witnesses, advocates for either parent, or the Court’s “eyes and ears.” The role is deliberately limited so parenting time can remain focused on the child and parent-child relationship.

Services

Parent and child time in an approved community or home setting with a trained supervisor present. The supervisor supports calm, predictable, child centered interaction while remaining as unobtrusive as the family’s circumstances permit.

A supervised exchange supports a child’s transition when parents need to limit direct contact. The supervisor coordinates timing, location, and transitions in accordance with the court order or written agreement.

Yes. When appropriate, a supervisor may provide real-time guidance involving communication, age-appropriate expectations, transitions, routines, engagement, boundaries, and responding constructively to a child’s cues. The purpose is educational and supportive, not therapeutic or evaluative.

FairPlay does not provide therapy or accept insurance. Services are privately paid supervised or accompanied parenting time with in-the-moment parent coaching. FairPlay may work in tandem with a family’s therapist while maintaining the distinct purpose and boundaries of each service.

Process & Scheduling

Each parent submits the questionnaire and current court order for a service-fit review. If FairPlay can provide services, the intake packet is reviewed and all parties agree to proceed. After the intake fee is received, each parent contacts FairPlay directly for a separate one-hour telephone intake. The assigned supervisor then arranges a brief Zoom or FaceTime meet-and-greet with the child and coordinates visits. The questionnaire is not the intake.

Case review covers the governing order or agreement, no-contact or line-of-sight terms, geographic feasibility, and supervisor availability. Intake also gathers child needs, practical concerns, visit logistics, and the professional team involved. The information is used for service planning and fit, not evaluation.

Scheduling depends on supervisor availability, completed intake materials, location, family schedules, applicable court terms, and the service plan. FairPlay confirms timing after those items have been reviewed.

Parenting time may take place in developmentally appropriate community environments such as libraries, museums, parks, recreational activities, and restaurants and, when appropriate, in homes.

Records & Safety

Activity Logs record basic factual information such as the date, time, location, activities, and food. They are not evaluations, parenting assessments, investigative reports, or recommendations. Incident Reports are separate and may be generated when rules or safety protocols are crossed or parenting time is significantly disrupted or frustrated.

Incident Reports may be generated when FairPlay rules or safety protocols are crossed, parenting time is significantly disrupted or frustrated, or another circumstance occurs requiring separate documentation. Documentation remains factual and within the defined scope of service.

Records are submitted directly to the court and impounded when required. A records preparation (“roll-up”) fee applies.

Restraining orders are reviewed carefully. Transitions and locations are planned so the parties are not within each other’s line of sight unless the order explicitly allows otherwise.

FairPlay reviews the applicable court terms, plans transitions around any no-contact requirements, and identifies child needs before parenting time begins. A supervisor may pause a visit when someone needs time to regulate or when a safety concern requires attention.

FairPlay may decline or discontinue services when the governing order cannot be implemented safely, the agreed service plan cannot be followed, or the service is not an appropriate fit.

Fees

Fees and pricing are available upon request. FairPlay provides a written fee agreement for review before services begin. The intake fee is non-refundable. FairPlay does not charge for travel time or basic case management. Activity-related supervisor admission, entrance, and required parking expenses are the responsibility of the visiting parent.

No. FairPlay uses one consistent fee schedule for every family rather than a sliding scale. Fees are available upon request and provided in writing before services begin.

Submit a service inquiry questionnaire, provide a copy of the court order, and complete the intake materials when requested. You can begin with Step 1 in Get Started below.

How FairPlay Works

How to connect to FairPlay for supervised parenting time services.

We follow established protocols and provide consistent oversight during visits to support a safe and productive environment.

The Massachusetts Department of Children and Families is very familiar with our program. FairPlay has been providing supervised parenting services since 2005.

Next Steps to Initiate Services:

To begin, we will send a questionnaire to be completed and returned along with a copy of the court order. This allows us to review whether we are an appropriate fit for your family and able to support the terms of the court order.

If appropriate, we will then provide the intake packet for your review. If all parties agree to move forward, an intake fee will be required.

The intake process includes:

  • One-hour separate phone intakes with each parent
  • Review of case history, court documents, and all protocols, rules, guidelines, and policies
  • Coordination of logistics and discussion of how best to support the child(ren) during visits

Following intake, the assigned supervisor will:

  • Conduct a brief meet-and-greet with the child(ren) via Zoom/FaceTime
  • Connect with each parent to coordinate and plan visits

During visits, we incorporate parent coaching using the Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) model to support positive interactions and help maintain appropriate boundaries.

Fee Information:

  • Fees and pricing are available upon request, with a written fee agreement provided before services begin.
  • No charge for travel time or basic case management. We don’t charge for travel time, as supervisors are assigned by geographic area whenever possible. We do not believe in hidden fees, add-on services, or upselling.

Our focus is supervised parenting time and parent support services designed to help visits occur in an environment free from abuse, intimidation, and conflict while maintaining clear professional boundaries and structured support.

Get Started

If you are seeking services

Begin with the questionnaire and current court order. The questionnaire is not the intake; services begin only after review, separate parent intake appointments, and planning are complete.

1

Step 1 Questionnaire Submission

The court order and required questionnaire are submitted for review.

2

Step 2 Case Review

FairPlay reviews the applicable court orders, safety concerns, logistics, scheduling needs, service requirements, and availability.

3

Step 3 Separate Parent Intakes

After the matter is accepted and the intake fee is received, FairPlay conducts a separate one-hour phone intake with each parent and reviews the case history, documents, rules, guidelines, policies, and protocols.

4

Step 4 Supervisor Introduction

The assigned supervisor holds a brief Zoom or FaceTime meet-and-greet with the child and contacts each parent to coordinate and plan visits.

5

Step 5 Scheduling Begins

Visits are scheduled once intake and planning are complete.

Each parent completes a separate questionnaire. Submission does not guarantee acceptance of services. FairPlay reviews the materials, location, requested schedule, and supervisor availability before confirming next steps.
